DOWN TO THE STUDS

Closes January 25

Every record on this wall is someone talking about God. YAH was God talking back. This one is a man's answer.

DOWN TO THE STUDS is a teardown — a builder's teardown, and you don't strip a house to the frame unless you mean to live in it. A man raised inside the church picks up a pry bar and works backward, newest board off first, oldest board last. Off comes the rapture, then faith alone, then the swapped-out Name, then the vote that settled it, then the venerable day of the sun, then the four accounts nobody signed, down to the man at the root of the whole frame. Nothing gets burned — it gets checked, board by board, to see what was holding the roof up and what was only paint. And when the frame is finally bare, the thing holding the house up is still standing: the Towrah, the Beloved, and a choice nobody else can make for him. Eleven songs that end where YAH ended — the light's still on, come home.

Every one of the eleven was recorded six different ways — same words, same order, different rooms the song could live in. We couldn't pick the cut, so we're not going to. You will. Listen, vote the take that lands, and the version the most producers choose is the one that ships. The people choose the final cut on this record — and that makes you a Producer.
